Big Cy! – Citation 1948 Triple Crown Winner

Among the younger web visitors to this cite, we may not recall the intricacies of this fine horses career. Perhaps all we know is that he is, indeed one of our 12 Triple Crown Winners and that’s it. But this horse was much more than that!

He won an astounding 16 races in a row, which stood as a record until 1996 when Cigar tied it, and was also the first racehorse to reach $1,000,000 in earnings..and that was in the 40’s!!!! Today, winning $1 million can happen after 2 or 3 races for some of these horses, but 70 years ago that was a feat to be reckoned with!
