Citation’s Owner: Calumet Farm

Any lover of horseracing as surely heard of Calumet Farm, with it’s rich history in Louisville, Kentucky extending back to 1924 when it was founded by William Monroe Wright. It has produced and run under it’s colors many Kentucky Derby and even Triple Crown winners, and produced some of the most influential thoroughbred’s in racing history.

Kentucky Derby Winners: Whirlaway (1941), Pensive (1944), Citation (1948), Ponder (1949), Hill Gail (1952), Iron beige (1957), Tim Tam (1958), Forward Pass (1968 by DQ)

Triple Crown Winners: Whirlaway (1941) and Citation (1948)

11 horses have been inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame.

The farm was sold in 1992, after controversy surrounding the death of Alydar and the subsequent insurance pay out. The sale and new owners have restored the farm to it’s pre-controversy workings.
